Christmas Styling Tips This Season

Updated: Dec 6, 2019

Hi Everyone

Welcome to today's blog about Christmas styling tips this season.

I feel like with the Interiors world becoming such a huge industry ATM the pressure to have your house looking ‘on point’ is bigger than ever before. Interiors is the fastest growing industry online alongside meme accounts so it is HUGE.

That being said the different seasons is starting to become a big thing here in England. Take Halloween for example, this was something that is so massive in America and every house is décor’ed (not sure if that’s a word ) out to the MAX with pumpkins galore and spooky themed ornaments. Slowly over the years this craze hit the UK and this year I saw more homes than ever before going all out with their decs.

This brings me to Christmas… With shops like Homesense offering such beautiful x-mas decorations which are quirky and a little bit different to what you could pick up from your average shop. The desire to have your home looking beautiful, cosy and ready for Santa seems to be a big thing this season. Many Instagram accounts I follow have already got up their trees ready for their favourite time of year and I am right there with them with excitement. I have always wanted to go to New York at Christmas. It is right up there on the bucket list alongside meeting Ru Paul 😊 But the extent everyone goes to there is just amazing and something I would love to see.

So lets talk decorations, are you just a tree kinda person? Or are you from a family where the foil decorations use to rouche along the ceiling and meet at the ceiling light 😊 (those were the days… sigh) Up until a few years ago I just a had tree up in my house and nothing else except our Christmas cards on display probably just like most houses. This was because old trends died and not much else was out there. But this brings me back to what I said up there … Interiors being the fastest growing industry…. I mean even Aldi sell bargain velvet stools with gold trim for £30. Every shop possible has jumped on the band wagon and are diving in to selling house décor. And there are some beautiful collections out there this year. I think if you are hosting Christmas then the pressure is on, you have to go all out with the garlands and lights wrapped around the staircase, wreaths and sensational table centre pieces to make your guests feel cosier than ever. So lets see whats out there and the must haves this season…

1. Sophie Allport

Now I don’t know about you but for me…. I’d have everything from this collection if I could 😊 its just so classy and simple and creates the perfect calm for those who love everything to match.

2 – The Christmas Tree

Who does it better than The White Company. THIS.TREE!!!!!

Its stunning, and so grand. Again this could be a Marmite as I know a lot of people have the feeling that all tress and décor should be in the traditional Christmas colours of red and green. But if you are like me and are a lover of all things grey then this tree inspo is the one for you. Its 9ft tall and comes with a hefty price tag of £895… its so dreamy though, who agrees?

If you are thinking £895 is a little out your price range… like I definitely am thinking. I'm going to go for the cheaper option of selecting some of their decorations so I can bring the white company appeal to my home. I saw these stunning hand etched glass baubles in there the other day and just fell in love. So understated and tasteful.

3 – The White Company

This mini dressed Nordic star decoration is adorable and perfect for a hanging decoration around the house.

4. Garlands for Your Table or Fireplace

I actually found my most favourite Garland to date from the range. The deluxe frosted bauble pine cone garland for £24.99 it was so pretty I just had to buy it. Garlands are huge this season. Every shop from Sainsburys to Homesense to the Range have whole walls of these featured. Don’t get me wrong, they are never cheap and I haven’t managed to see any good quality ones for below £25 for an average 1.2 metres but they are selling as they last as an investment for each year. You can use them as table centre pieces, to put over your fire place surround, lay in front of your TV on the TV unit, wind them round staircases… the list goes on. Make sure you add some wire lights for that extra sparkle.

See it featured below in the x-mas décor shoot on the my dining table.

5. Winter Botanical Candle

I don’t know about you but I have to have a candle on every single night throughout winter. And with the evenings so dark and the cosiness of the x-mas tree lights and lamps a candle is an absolute must have giving off a beautiful winter scent throughout the room. The chunkier the candle the better, especially the ones like this one below with all the cinnamon and orange peel set in the wax.

7. Stunning Gold Trees

These gold trees caught my eye as soon as I saw them in Homesense. They are so elegant and add the perfect touch to a modern home. I brought 2 large and 2 small. This was so I could arrange in a cluster of 3 with the large and 2 small or place out along the table giving height differences like the below.

8 – Make Your House the Ultimate Cosy Haven

Whether your house is modern or has country elements, get yourself some baskets for throws in your living room. Homesense and other shops have LOADS to choose from to suit any style home. So if you want gold wire baskets or cute wicker storage bins select the best most suited for your living room and fill them with blankets galore. I always like to style these with a fluffy cushion or two and have the blankets hanging out the side to add life. You don’t need a fire place to have this look. Find any corner of the room and stock up on those winter warmers ready for nights in with friends. Don’t forget that Floor lanterns are another amazing style feature to a room. They add interest to a room and help surround a feature like this fire place below or you could feature them around your TV unit for movie night.

9 – Christmas Table Setting

One of my most favourite things to do is dress the table for the occasion, for the look below I used a garland to drape through the middle and added some fairy lights. I then dotted loose pine cones and various sized candles throughout the garland. I added height using gold ornament trees as centre pieces. To finish the look, each setting had it's own plate, bowl, glass and grey linen napkins with gorgeous pearl napkin rings to complete the Christmas effect.

Why not dress your table with something a little different this year to fully embrace the festive period.

Plates – Monsoon, Denby

Napkins – Dunelm

Table runner – Dunelm

Napkin rings – Dunelm

Gin glasses – Sainsburys

Candles – IKEA

Garland – The Range

Lights around garland – The Range

Gold trees and wooden trees - Homesense

10 – Wreaths

There's hundreds of stunning wreaths out there and they are going nowhere. With Christmas wreath making courses and from dried wreaths, faux and real their extent is endless. So how do you pick the best one for you that is an investment for each year? My suggestion is the below, This stunning Eucalyptus wreath from Neptune Home. I cant go on any interior install without taking Euc with me to add some greenery splash, its massive, so when I saw it in a wreath I thought OMG this is the one for me. The great thing about this wreath is you can add your own character to it. Some people like to change up their x-mas colour each season, so with a plain one like this is means you can style it out how you want each x-mas without a huge expense. So get your creative juices flowing and have a go at your own wreath décor. Add some beautiful cinnamon sticks, pine cones and a velvet ribbon as a base and tie in your fave baubles 😊
